Voodoo, our IAGARB registered black German doe, kindled 8 babies yesterday. Six of the eight are pure black! The sire is a purebred black German as well. He has only been here about a month; brought all the way from Ontario Canada. He is fantastic and has an excellent pedigree.
We are looking forward to see how these babies develop.
Congratulations! It’s amazing how tiny they are at first.
Yay! Can’t wait to see the kits grow up. How many does do you have now?
I have about nine does in my barn. However, only one black doe! Ouija went to Ontario with Leslie for her black German breeding program. I got a much needed gorgeous black buck in exchange. If you check the IAGARB blog(link is in the sidebar), you can read all about Ouija’s trip across country!
congrats on the new black litter – have you found to colored wool to be as productive as the white?
Donna–hard to say. Typically, no we haven’t seen colored Germans with really big numbers like we have the albinos. However there have been a few including one agouti with over 1800 g. annual. As the colored animals increase in numbers and breeding improves, we should start seeing higher wool production. There are so many things to work on with colored animals in addition to the wool and the breed standard, such as eliminating spots and white toe nails.
